January Sea Swimmers – I stood and painted this the other morning as the sun came over the hilltops and lit up Morte. The wind was straight out of the NE and it was raw, it didn’t take long to bite through my warm clothing and after an hour, I was frozen.
Meanwhile the hardy sea swimmers took turns disrobing one by one and plunging themselves into the frigid Atlantic, I shivered every time one went in.
The warmth of the sunlight on Morte was an optical illusion and a mean tease. After retreating to the studio , it took me the rest of the day to warm up.
I was fascinated by the contrast between the cool colours of the cove and the warm sunlit colours on the point.
Such a visual treat in January.
