Just the delicate tinkle of a tiny wave occasionally cascading across sand made from millions of broken shells, ground into shiny pieces that glint in the early morning sunshine.
The far cry of a gull soaring on the sea breeze that is still cool, seaweed briny smell hanging in the air.
This is my happy place.
Barricane Beach. A tiny dent in the undulating coastline, almost a hiccup, before it unwinds itself into three long beaches that stretch as far as Westward Ho! further south. It feels so different to those large sandy expanses. Somehow more intimate, you could almost forgive yourself for thinking that you were somewhere in the Mediterranean at times.
This little cove has been the stage and backdrop to many moments in my life, some mere snippets of time as light and tide interact with each other. I never tire of painting it.
Even when it seems that I have explored it in so many ways, just a stroll down that steep path and five minutes sat in that sand, and a whole new scene unravels and begs to be portrayed.
Enjoy some of those moments with a small selection here. Many have gone to hang in homes of lovers of this little cove. Some are still waiting to rekindle beachy memories in a new home. All are available as prints in my online shop.
I hope this brings some of that seaweed and salt drifting on the air to you this morning.
Have a great day!
